গোরস্থানের ভূত

গোরস্থানের পাশ দিয়ে গ্রামের ভিতরে যাওয়া-আসার রাস্থা। ঐ রাস্থা দিয়ে দিনের বেলায় যাতায়াতে কোনো সমস্যা হতো না কিন্তু রাত হলেই নামতো বিপত্তি। একা একা যাওয়া তো দূরের কথা ভয়ে মানুষজন দল বেঁধে যেতেও সাহস পেত না। গোরস্থান পবিত্র একটা জায়গা। অন্য কোনো স্থানে ভয় পেলেও গোরস্থানে ভয় পাওয়ার কথা নয়। তারপরও গ্রামবাসীদের মধ্যে কিসের যেন একটা ভয় সবসময়ই লেগেই থাকত। কেউ একা একা যাওয়া-আসা করতে গিয়ে গোরস্থানের ভিতরে দূর থেকে সাদা কি যেন নড়াচড়া করতে দেখতো এবং অদ্ভূত ধরনের আওয়াজও শুনতে পেত।

এক মুখ দুই মুখ করতে করতে সমস্ত গ্রামবাসীর মধ্যে এক ধরনের ভীতির সঞ্চার হয়। আসল ঘটনাটা কি তা পরীক্ষা করার জন্য রাতে দল বেঁধে গোরস্থানে যেতেও সকলেই ভয় পেত। তবে কোনো মানুষ মারা গেলে তাকে মাটি দেয়ার সময় কেউ কখনও বিপদের সম্মুখীন হয়নি। তাই গ্রামবাসীরা মানুষ মারা না গেলে কেউ সন্ধ্যার পরে ঐ গোরস্থানে তো দূরের কথা গোরস্থানের পাশ দিয়েও হাঁটতো না। হঠাৎ একদিন বয়স্ক একজন লোক সন্ধ্যার পর পর ঐ পথ দিয়ে গ্রামের দিকে আসছিল। লোকটি নিজের কাজে শহরে গিয়েছিল কিন্তু শহর থেকে আসতে দেরি হওয়ার কারণেই তার সন্ধ্যার পরে যাত্রা। সে যখন গোরস্থানের খুব কাছাকাছি পৌঁছালো তখন ভীতিকর এক ধরনের শব্দে তার গা ছমছম করতে লাগলো। তারপরও সে না দাঁড়িয়ে বুকে ফু দিয়ে গোরস্থানের দিকে এগুতে থাকল।

গোরস্থানের মাঝামাঝি যখন এসে পৌঁছালো লোকটি। তখন সে পাশের ঝোঁপের দিকে তাকিয়ে চুপ করে দাঁড়িয়ে রইল। ঠিক তখনই কি যেন তার সামনে দিয়ে গড়িয়ে রাস্তার এপাশ থেকে ওপাশে চলে গেল। আর তখনই এমন জোরে চিৎকার শুরু করল লোকটি যে গ্রামের আশেপাশের বাড়ির মানুষজন লাঠি নিয়ে ছুটে আসতে থাকলো গোরস্থানের দিকে। গ্রামবাসীদের পৌঁছানোর আগেই লোকটি জ্ঞান হারিয়েছে। গ্রামবাসীদের কেউ কেউ তাকে ধরাধরি করে গ্রামের কবিরাজ বাড়িতে নিয়ে গেল আর কেউ কেউ গোরস্থানের ভিতরে ভূতের তল্লাশি করতে থাকলো। সবাই চারিদিক তন্নতন্ন করে খোঁজার পর শেষমেষ দেখতে পেলে একটা সাদা কাপড়ের টুকরার।

কাপড়ের টুকরাটা হাতে পাওয়ার পর একজন বলে উঠলো এই গোরস্থানে তাহলে কোনো ভূত নাই এই কাপড়ের টুকরা দিয়েই মানুষকে ভয় দেখানো হয়। তাহলে এই কাজটা করে গ্রামের দুষ্টু পোলাপানরা। সকলের মধ্যে অনেক আগে ভয় পাওয়া একজন লোক উপস্থিত ছিল, সেও সাদা কাপড় দেখে এর আগে ভূত মনে করে ভয়ে দৌড় দিয়েছিল। তাই সে নিশ্চিত করে বলতে পারল ঘটনাটা। গ্রামবাসীরা গ্রাম্য মাতবরের কাছে উপস্থিত। গোরস্থানের এই ভূতের একটা ব্যবস্থা করতেই হবে। ততক্ষণে ভয় পাওয়া লোকটির জ্ঞান ফিরেছে। সে তার সাথে ঘটে যাওয়া ঘটনাটি বলল মাতবরের সামনে। খুলে

এসব ঘটনা শুনে মাতবরসহ গ্রামের গণ্যমান্য ব্যক্তিরা রেগে আগুন। মাতবর নির্দেশ দিলেন চব্বিশ ঘণ্টার মধ্যে যদি এই কাজের সাথে জড়িতরা আমার সামনে হাজির হয়ে দোষ স্বীকার না করে তাহলে গ্রামের সব পাঁজি ছেলেদের ধরে আনা হবে এবং প্রমাণ হলে তাকে চিরকালের জন্য গ্রাম থেকে তাড়িয়ে দেয়া হবে। মাতবরের আদেশ শুনে গ্রামের সব পাঁজি ছেলের অভিভাবকরা তাদের বাড়িতে গিয়ে ছেলেদের অনেক করে বুঝালো। তারা বলল- 'বাবা, তোরা যদি এই কাজ করে থাকিস তাহলে এখনই স্বীকার কর। মাতবরকে ধরে শাস্তি কমানোর ব্যবস্থা করা যাবে। আর যদি স্বীকার না করিস তাহলে প্রমাণ হলে এই গ্রামে আর চিরতরে ঢুকতে পারবি না।

পরদিন সকাল ১০টা। মাতবরের দেয়া ২৪ ঘণ্টার আল্টিমেটামের সময় পার হতে আর ১ ঘণ্টা বাকি। গ্রামবাসীরা আস্তে আস্তে হাজির হচ্ছে কিন্তু কোনো পাঁজি ছেলের দেখা পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। সময় অতিক্রম হওয়ার ঠিক ১০ মিনিট পর আলম আর তার দুই বন্ধু হাজির হলো মাতবরের সামনে। আলম হলো গ্রামের সবচেয়ে শান্তশিষ্ট ছেলে। তার বন্ধুরাও ছিল তার মতোই নিরীহ প্রকৃতির।

গ্রামের কেউ তাদেরকে কখনও কোনো ঝামেলায় জড়াতে দেখে নাই, তাই গ্রামবাসীরা তাদের তিনজনকেই সব সময়ই ভালো ছেলে বলেই জানতো। সেই তিনজন ভালো ছেলেকে মাতবরের সামনে উপস্থিত থাকতে দেখে গ্রামবাসীরা প্রথমে মনে করেছিল এরা হয়তো বিচার দেখতে এসেছে। কিন্তু সকলের ভুল ভাঙলো যখন তারা স্বীকার করল যে গোরস্থানের ভূত তারাই। তাদের কথা শুনে গ্রামবাসীদের আকাশ থেকে পড়ার অবস্থা। সবাই কানাঘুষা করতে থাকল এই বলে যে, এমন ভালো ছেলেদের দ্বারা কি এ ধরনের জঘন্য কাজ

করা সম্ভব।

মাতবর সাহেব কোনো কথা বলছেন না। আলম ও তার বন্ধুদের বাবার মুখেও তালা লেগেছে। কিভাবে এই ছেলেদের শাস্তি দেবে সেটাও ভেবে পাচ্ছে না মাতবর। অনেকক্ষণ চুপ থাকার পর মাতবর সাহেব বললেন- 'এই ছেলেদের গ্রামে যেহেতু খারাপ কোনো রেকর্ড নাই তাই তাদেরকে তাদের বাবা যে শাস্তি দেবে আমরা সেটাই মেনে নেবো। পরদিন সকাল। আলম আর তার দুই বন্ধু এক জায়গায় বসে বসে ব্যথায় কাতরাচ্ছে। গায়ের জামার কয়েক জায়গায় ছেঁড়া। তাদেরকে দেখে বোঝা যাচ্ছে, তাদের বাবা এমন উত্তম মধ্যম
